and his ceramics
Pablo Picasso had no training as a ceramist, he learned the craft by experimenting with the materials. While the pieces were made by professional potters at the Madoura pottery, Picasso would alter them to create his distinctive ceramic art. The artist reshaped, engraved, and painted the pottery.
Picasso was introduced to the work of the Vallauris potters Suzanne and Georges Ramie in 1946. This was the start of a lifelong collaboration. Picasso designed around 3500 works and included in this is the 633 different edited ceramic works between 1947 and 1971.
In connection with his ceramics exhibitions in Vallauris, Picasso collaborated with the Arnera printing company to create posters. What characterizes much of his poster art is the simplicity of the line that the technique of linolium technology provides.
