Picasso ceramics

Picasso was introduced to the work of the Vallauris potters Suzanne and Georges Ramie in 1946. This was the start of a lifelong collaboration. Picasso designed around 3500 works  and included in this is the 633 different edited ceramic works between 1947 and 1971.

These works were made as uniques or made in multiple variation or in editions up to 500 pieces.

Most of the editions are utilitarian objects such as vases, bowls or plates in a variety of shapes. The decoration was painted and engraved. Mostly the motifs often shows animal figures, plants, birds and fishes or mythological figures, corrida scenes etc..

All the major acution houses regulary have actions containing Picasso Ceramics or even separate auctions.

As Picasso works in general is extremely expensive many collectors has started to see the fast growing potential of the ceramcic works.
